This Day Last Year: Pregnant!

A year ago today I discovered I was pregnant.

It was a Sunday and I had been ‘late’ by a few days so I took a pregnancy test that I bought the day before. You are supposed to wait like, two minutes to get the results, so I set the timer and tried to do something else and not look. Spencer looked at it early (I was yelling at him from the other room to stop looking at it) and started laughing. So, shocker, it turns out it was positive.

Church was cancelled that day due to the dedication of the Oquirrh Mountain temple. Don’t tell anyone, but we decided instead that we would relax and enjoy a day completely together with nothing to do and no church. You know you like those days too—don’t judge!

Spencer called the pregnancy my birthday surprise # 1, and then gave me my birthday surprise # 2. We were going to go to the Sunday Brunch at Snowbird to celebrate my birthday (on the 26th.)

We went while we were dating and never have an opportunity to go, so it was nice to treat ourselves to a date where we completely stuff ourselves to the brim. And that dessert table…mmm…. Luckily my constsant morning sickness hadn’t kicked in yet and I was able to eat a ton of really good food.

It is so beautiful up there in the mountains; it was the perfect place to go to celebrate. Celebrate my birthday, the pregnancy, our marriage. The baby-free time we had left together.

We were pretty shocked, even though I had been off my birth control since June. Getting pregnant was something I knew could happen, obviously, so we thought that if I did get pregnant then it would be an okay time for that. I had been told since I was 19 that my endometriosis could possibly make it difficult for me to conceive, so my interest was in getting my body regulated.

Well, we know what happened and I am so glad that it did! I am a mom, and we have a beautiful daughter who we can't imagine life without. It's hard to believe that was a year ago... so fast and so slow all at once! We'll see what happens next...

4 Months!

Abby is 4 months old today!

No stats today because her 4 month check-up isn't untill next week, but we've estimated her weight to be around 13 pounds.

She is such a happy little girl. She is a big time drooler and loves to stand and go outside. She gets more excited when she is carried outside in our arms, unencumbered by the car seat rather than in it or the stroller.

She loves Spencer a ton. As do I. He can always make her smile.
Please excuse the Victorias Secret commercial in the background.

She is so busy all the time-- always wanting to stand or kick her legs and squirm, but sometimes after she eats she will just sit with me and relax. She hangs out sucking on her fingers and I get to cuddle her like crazy.

She's still our little bug! Love her.

First Laugh!

Yesterday, I spent the whole day with Abby while Bonnie was at work for the last time. I happened to catch this video of Abby laughing for the first time! (Please excuse the movement of the camera, but it was my moving around that caused her to laugh.)

I also happened to accidentally catch her in the act of spitting up recently:

Just for good measure, here are a couple of other good photos of the Babe:

California Trip

On Saturday, July 31st my grandma Evelyn Henslee passed away. She was my dad’s mom, and she was a wonderful, sweet, and very kind woman. She and her husband Jack live in Bakersfield, California. She has struggled with many health issues and has been in significant pain for the last several years, so while it was sad to have her go, I am so relieved that she is no longer in pain. I know she is happy to be whole again. She was 88 years old.

Abby and I flew to California last Tuesday to be with my entire family for the viewing and the funeral.

My sister Carrie and I were on the same flight to LAX with our babes. Abby and Colton were great on the plane- I was more worried about the other passengers and their reactions to us and the babies than the babies themselves but they were fantastic travelers. The strangers around us were also very nice and I was even offered help from several other travelers on both flights.

The 6 of us haven’t been together since Robbie and Hannah’s wedding, over 2 years ago (and strangely, also in California.) The funny thing about this trip was that no spouses ended up coming; it was completely a Hamill trip. It was so wonderful to be with my siblings and parents and I am so glad we were all able to be together for this funeral.

Abby and Colton were able to meet their Aunt Keena and Uncle Robbie and we all had tons of time to talk in the car on the way from LA to Bakersfield.

Sorry Mom- Abby doesn't look too excited to be with you but she really was!

There was a lot of this going on.

Keena and Robbie at the burial.

I don't know why but I really like this picture of Keena.

There was even more of this going on. Lots of side-by-side cousin time in the carseats.

My dad and his step dad Jack.

We are sorry to have our grandmother gone but we enjoyed spending time together and with our cousins from my dad’s side who we don’t see often.

Airport bathroom on the way home! (She was not happy at this point.)

It was a very quick trip and I returned on Wednesday night around 10 pm.

Cue the food poisoning.

We had a luncheon at my Aunt Lynn’s house after the burial with a ton of food that her friends prepared. I ate a lot of everything and who knows what it was, but my family all ate what I did, for the most part.

Robbie had a red-eye back to DC Wednesday night that I was sure he was sick on, and Keena had to go back to work the next day… fortunately (or unfortunately for us) my mom and I were the only ones who were hit with it. It was awful, and sparing the details, it was a rough couple of days. Taking care of the baby made things more difficult, but thankfully the absolute worst of it was during the night when she was sleeping.

Food poisoning aside, we had a good visit. Next time, no funerals please. And maybe I pack my own lunch.

Food poisoning and a funeral

We've had a lot going on here this week.

I had a great time being with my family in California, but it was an unfortunate occasion that brought all 6 Hamills together again. The food poisoning happened, of course, after the funeral (and thankfully after the plane travel alone with a 3 month old baby!)

Once I feel up to it, I'll tell you all about it!

Yummy

Remember this? Well thanks to the babe and a Chick-Fil-A Riverdale City photo contest, once again we won free dinner. Yay!

Sorry... I just like this picture.
