Sooo...

It appears she is ready. Disregard my last post.

P.S. The "chocolate face" comment I made refers to the chocolate ice cream on her face that is not really visible on the video.

And for those who like to see what a little attitude this girl is getting, here is another, that was taken about a week ago.

Upset little walker (and 100th post, woot)

*Update* I've gotten Abby to take several steps this afternoon by herself. This video is indeed dated. Oh well.

This video was taken a few weeks ago, at the beginning of July. Spencer posted it on Facebook, but I thought I'd throw it on here too. Since this video was taken, Abby has taken several steps on her own (all in the presence of Spencer, not me. Grrrr...) She can walk, she just doesn't want to walk. It's a little long- and the two teeny steps she takes is at the end of the video.

We have come to the conclusion that she will have to make the decision to walk on her own because if we push her to do it, as shown in the video, she gets upset and sits down. Silly girl. I know I shouldn't be impatient for this whole business to go down, because once she gets the hang of it she'll be that much more difficult to keep track of, but I sort of can't help it.

Moms, when did your little ones start to walk?

P.S. How excited am I that Project Runway is starting next week?? Very. The answer is very.

Happy Yellow Stripey

I made another skirt! Yay!

I like the yellow. I hardly have any yellow.

And I love the chevron stripe.

I debated whether or not to make a skirt or a bag... what do you think? Did I make the right decision?
I am planning on making another one in a different color, and when I do, I was going to make a tutorial to post. Is anyone interested to see?
Check back to see when it posts!

Appreciation

So, we did it again-
Cow Appreciation Day!
Remember this post from last year?
I was accused earlier this week by a coworker of being a crazy person because I not only subjected my baby to this madness last year for free food, but that I was planning to do it again this year. Umm, please tell me that I'm not the only cheap person out there who enjoys free food? Abby thoroughly enjoyed her meal so I don't think anyone's complaining.
Anyway, we traveled to South Jordan to be with our cousins Chloe and Colton. We figured that while one may feel utterly (udderly? No? Not funny?) ridiculous dressing one's self in cow attire and asking for free food alone with a paper snort taped to one's nose, it is less ridiculous when you do it with other people.

We got ourselves free meals, thank you Chick-fil-A!

( For some reason I had my snout paper obscuring my glasses. Arg.)

Hope you had a good day too!

Polka Dots

I made things!
Does anyone care? Probably not. But I have felt like making things lately, and I did. Originally when I started this 4th of July dress it looked totally different in my head... but whatevs, this is what came out of it.

Horray for red, white, and blue!

All handmade. With handmade bias tape. Fancy, I know. Don't look all that closely because it isn't perfect.
BACK:

I also made Abby this shirt a few weeks ago, but I didn't have the opportunity to take a picture of Abs in it until the other day when Carrie and her kiddos came to play.

So there you go. I just thought I'd show you all what I've been up to lately.

If anyone is interested in a tutorial, just let me know, it will fit around a 12-18 month, but of course it can be modified. I am planning on making another one this month.

Happy 4th of July weekend!

Abby likes Spicy Chicken

George Costanza, anyone?

Anyway, Abby doesn't like chicken normally. She has had some problems with eating what we give her for a while now. It is our one frustration with her. She likes to toss her food over the side of the high chair. Not because she is done eating, or because she full. For funsies. She will eat a few bites, then toss, or just toss without tasting, and {maybe} 2 minutes later eat the same food I've retrieved from the floor back on to her high chair. She loves toast and loves strawberries, but sometimes she'll toss even those foods too. Again, just for funsies.

Despite the seeming lack of reason behind throwing her food other than to play the gravity game, she has never tried chicken. She seems to have decided months ago that she would have nothing to do with it and she would be the minority in America and not love it.

So. On to the chicken that she would eat.

Has anyone had the lemon pepper chicken at Pei Wei? They took it off their menu several months ago, but that stuff was good. They had a similar dish at their sister store PF Changs, lemon pepper shrimp.

They both taste very similar, but we like the chicken variety a little better. Spencer has made it for us twice now, and it is really yummy.

She loved it.

She ate a whole bunch of it. We had previously discovered that she likes lemons, but I think it was the sauce that she liked the best. That girl loves her sauces.

 Want to make it too?

P.F. Chang's Lemon Pepper Shrimp

Sauce
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
2 Tablespoons chopped garlic
1/2 Teaspoon minced ginger
1/3 Cup soy sauce
3/4 Cup water
2 Teaspoons cornstarch
1/4 Cup dark brown sugar
2 Teaspoons lemon juice
2 Teaspoons coarse grind black pepper
1 Pound medium raw shrimp (31/40 count), shelled and deveined
1/2 Cup cornstarch
1 Cup vegetable oil
4 thin lemon slices, each cut into quarters

Garnish
1 Teaspoon vegetable oil
2 Large green onions
1 Cup bean sprouts
.
Sauce: Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a wok or large saucepan over medium heat.
Sauté garlic and ginger in the hot oil for about 15 seconds being careful
not to burn the garlic. Add the soy sauce, then dissolve cornstarch in the
water and add the mixture to the pan. Add brown sugar, lemon juice and black
pepper and bring mixture to a boil. Simmer for two minutes then remove it
from the heat.

Shrimp: Coat all the shrimp generously with cornstarch. Let the shrimp sit
for about five minutes so that the cornstarch will adhere better. Heat a cup
of oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add the shrimp to the pan
and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes or until the shrimp starts to turn light brown.
Strain the shrimp out of the oil with a slotted spoon or spider and dump
oil. Replace shrimp back in the wok the lemon slices, sauté for a minute,
then add the sauce to the pan. Toss everything around to coat the shrimp
thoroughly. Cook for another minute or so until the sauce thickens on the
shrimp.

As the shrimp cooks, heat up 1 teaspoon of oil in a separate medium
saucepan. Cut the green part of the green onions into 3" lengths. Add green
onion slices and bean sprouts to hot oil along with a dash of salt and
pepper. Sauté for a couple minutes until green onions begin to soften.

Assemble Dish: Pour the green onions and sprouts onto a serving plate. Place
shrimp over the vegetables and serve.

Servings: 2

We've cut out the bean sprouts, and used light brown sugar because that is what we had on hand. Again, we used chicken and it was very tasty.
Trust me. Yums.
